IS IT RIGHT FOR YOU?

Your screen is part of the picture.

A dedicated home cinema.

You have a projector, screen and fixed seating. We account for the agreed viewing conditions when tuning your picture.

HDR suited to your setup.

We check how your projector translates HDR brightness to its capabilities. Image size, screen and room light also affect the result.

Playback devices included.

A player, streaming device, receiver or video processor can affect the signal path. We check the agreed chain together.

UNDERSTAND FIRST. THEN ADJUST.

Movie magic depends on the whole picture.

With projection, the screen is part of image reproduction. This makes final on-site tuning particularly useful. We assess colour, greyscale and brightness transitions as well as supported HDR tone mapping, using measurements and agreed scenes.

WHAT IS INCLUDED

ACROSS GERMANY BY ARRANGEMENT

Can I send my projector to the lab?

Yes, by prior arrangement. A lab calibration does not replace final tuning to your own screen. We will discuss whether shipping, an on-site appointment or a custom scope makes sense.

YOUR PICTURE QUALITY SPECIALIST

HDR is his speciality.
Your movie night, his mission.

When you book Der Kalibrator, you book Florian Friedrich personally: a technology journalist, HDR specialist and colourist with experience from creating a film image to reproducing it on your display.

What does that mean for you? A trained eye for skin tones, shadow detail and bright highlights. Measurements that explain how your display behaves. And someone who shows you which settings can improve your movie night.

EXPERIENCE IN THE SPECIALIST PRESS

Putting high-end TVs to the test.

As a specialist journalist, Florian tests current high-end TVs for audiovision — from HDR highlights to colour reproduction. In-depth reviews give him first-hand knowledge of their strengths, limits and adjustment options. He brings that experience to your calibration appointment.

HDR, DOWN TO THE DETAILS

Helping shape the standards.

Florian chairs the HDR subcommittee of the International Committee for Display Metrology (ICDM). He contributes to the IDMS measurement standard and publishes scientific papers on HDR display measurement, bringing that knowledge to your home cinema.

EXPERIENCE BEHIND THE IMAGE, TOO

Colourist for over 40 HDR releases.

Florian works with HDR in film production, from colour grading to the finished master. He also produces his own HDR test patterns and demo material, combining precise measurements with an eye for the intended picture.

RECENT SPECIALIST ARTICLES

He tests what makes a great picture.

How bright should a highlight be? Which details remain visible in the shadows? And how natural do colours look? Florian explores these questions in his in-depth TV reviews for audiovision.

The full reviews are available as PDFs from audiovision.

Expertise you can put to use. As a tutor in display and HDR workshops, Florian makes complex imaging technology understandable. During your appointment, you can ask him your questions directly and get to know your own setup better.

INNOPQ HOME

Your picture, calibrated.
With a personal record.

Your calibration includes an InnoPQ home device seal and a personal calibration certificate. Klarsicht, Filmreif or Kinofein: your service level, calibration year and device details document the individual calibration of your display.

The measurement report records which picture modes were checked and adjusted, and under what conditions. Performed by Kalibrator.de · Florian Friedrich.

More devices. One coordinated plan.

A living-room TV and a home cinema projector? We offer individually calculated multi-device discounts for combined bookings. Shared preparation and travel can reduce the work per device.

Keep your picture in tune.

An annual check helps us review picture reproduction and settings. For a long-term schedule of repeat visits, we offer an individual maintenance quotation with preferential pricing. Scope, term and travel are agreed in advance.

FOR THOSE WHO WANT TO TAKE A CLOSER LOOK

Want to calibrate it yourself?
Get the tools for the job.

Want to take control of your picture? Der Kalibrator supplies measurement instruments, our own InnoPQ test patterns and the knowledge to use them well.

With HDR and wide colour gamuts, the match between your instrument and display matters. An affordable colorimeter can be a starting point, but may reach its limits in very dark tones, bright highlights or narrow-band colours. We help you choose a measurement setup that suits your display, goals and budget.

Precision takes two.

A high-quality colorimeter takes fast readings, including in dark image areas. A precise spectroradiometer captures the colour spectrum and provides a reference for display-specific profiling. Our tools include the Admesy PCM2X-271 and Hera — and we can supply suitable instruments for your own setup.

Test patterns with a purpose.

Our InnoPQ test patterns and sequences target colour reproduction, shadow detail and HDR highlights. We agree the scope, formats and usage rights to suit your application.

Know-how comes with it.

In individually arranged training, Florian shows you how measurement setup, profiling, software and visual checks work together. You gain a setup you understand and can keep working with yourself.

Why a preset and low Delta E numbers do not tell the whole story.

A correction preset may suit your display. It does not replace verified profiling of your particular colorimeter on the target display against a suitable spectral reference. Inappropriate corrections can cause systematic measurement errors, especially with narrow spectral peaks. Profiling also does not remove the limits of measurement range, noise or spectral resolution of the instruments involved.

Delta E describes the calculated colour error of the points measured. It matters. For a convincing HDR picture, we also examine luminance tracking, tone mapping, shadow detail and behaviour as image content changes. Our own test sequences and a trained eye complement the measurements.

A few things to clarify.

How should I prepare for the appointment?

Have your model details, remote control and usual playback devices ready. The display or screen should be accessible, and the room should ideally be able to be darkened. We agree suitable picture modes, software versions and warm-up times for your device beforehand. You are welcome to watch and ask questions during the appointment.

Are 4–6 hours enough for every home cinema?

The package covers one device and the agreed scope after a model check. Complex signal paths, extra devices or additional work may require a separate commission. We discuss this before your appointment.

Will my projector become as bright as a TV?

Calibration does not change your projector’s light output or native contrast. We tune supported settings to the available capabilities and agreed conditions.

Is travel included in the €999 price?

Travel within the Munich area is free. Southern Bavaria is €150 and northern Bavaria €300. See the travel map for fixed fees in other regions. They apply in addition to your calibration package, once per shared on-site appointment.
